Oktoberfest

October is upon us. It is the month to celebrate beer and sausage in style, and to enjoy an Oktoberfest.

Did you know that, in the past, a frankfurter sausage was synonym of luxury? Think about it… next time you treat yourself with a modest hot dog, you should actually feel as special as an emperor. How do I know?

I came across this fantastic article by Neil MacGregor for the BBC. The country with one people and 1,200 sausages will tell you everything you always wanted to know about German history, tradition and culture around beer and sausages.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-29380144

It also mentions that Germany has a long tradition of regional brewing, with handmade beers from tiny breweries. One example close to my heart is Zum Stiefel in Saarbrücken http://www.stiefelgastronomie.de/index.htm, where you can enjoy a gastronomic meal, while sampling unique beer amongst the stills.

Festivities are already under way in Munich, until Sunday 5/10/14.  http://www.oktoberfest.de/de

And they start from tomorrow in Edinburgh (for example) http://www.edinburgh-oktoberfest.co.uk/index.php?section=startseite

Search online for your nearest celebration and ‘Prosit!’

    • Many thanks for your support (on both WP and twitter)! Have a great October, too. In Greece it’s the tradition to wish ‘καλό μινα’/’good Month’ 🙂 best wishes, Laetitia.
